Taking Care of Business \ Terry & Mel

mellie-c:

Melanie’s nose wrinkled slightly when she noticed he was restraining himself from laughing at the name he suggested. She gave a little huff, naming creatures was hard! The names had to be just so and she didn’t want to give the hippogriff any ol’ name, he was special so his name had to be special as well. At least, that’s how Melanie’s mind worked. “Well…he likes Fang an awful lot,” she replied, scratching at her head. “He sleeps tucked into Fang’s belly for warmth at night, which is quite amusing, I must say.”

She nodded rapidly. “Abraxans were the first magical creature I’ve ever seen and I’ve loved them since then,” she explained. “Dragons were a close second, of the first few creatures I’ve seen I mean, but I’m not going to get into that. Let’s just say I got too close to one the first time I saw it.”

Her lips twitched slightly. “I can be intimidating, you just haven’t seen that part of me yet. You’ve never needed to, thankfully, but you’ll see it one day. It’s inevitable. I mean, even you can’t resemble a teddy bear all the time. It’s impossible, everyone has two sides whether they like it or not.”

She scanned the grounds for Hagrid again, even listening to see if she’d hear his jolly whistling or his heavy footsteps but all was still. Not even the crows that liked to sit around Hagrid’s pumpkin patch were cawing today. “Hmm? Oh, yeah, they mature pretty fast. Their wings are strong enough by the time the week is over, though they still can’t go on very long journeys for a while. And I won’t mind, it’s why I told you about it. Anyone who hasn’t seen a hippogriff’s first flight is missing out.”

The ravenclaw boy sat there thinking for a minute. “How about Aquileo?” At the new word, the hippogriff lifted its head. Terry grinned down at it. “He seems to like it.” The name seemed quite fitting for the creature, actually. “Fang?” He asked, amazed. That was definitely an odd place for a hippogriff to be. He let out a hearty laugh, “Well whatever makes him happy, I guess. It does sound quite amusing.”

Terry cocked an eyebrow when she brought up dragons. “What happened?” For a girl who was so skilled and knowledgeable, it would be interesting to hear this story. “If you don’t mind telling that is. I don’t want you to feel embarassed,” he said grinning and giving her a nudge.

“Wait..” he looked at her intently, “You think I resemble a teddy bear?” He asked with a wide grin on his face. He laughed at that thought. “I think I have more than two sides, but I understand your point. I’m a bit afraid to see your intimidating side.”
A teddy bear…” he muttered, still smiling and looking down at the hippogriff.

He laid his head back, careful not to disturb the mass of feathers on his lap, and closed his eyes. He had always loved being at Hagrid’s hut, away from the stone walls he’d grown so accustomed to. And being here with someone to talk to, who actually enjoyed talking with him as well.. it was turning out to be a good day for the ravenclaw. “Well I’d be more than happy to come see it. It sounds fascinating. I’ve never seen a hippogriff’s first flight before.”
“I wonder where Hagrid is..” he thought aloud, simply wondering, not necessarily wanting him to come back at the moment. He was very relaxed and having a nice conversation with his Slytherin friend.
